How to update your Google Business Profile (hours, menu, photos)
How to update your Google Business Profile: change your hours, add holiday hours, edit your menu and upload photos, step by step in plain English.
To update your Google Business Profile, search for your business name on Google while signed in to the account that manages it, then use the edit options that appear for your hours, photos and menu. Changes usually show up within a short time, though some edits can take a day or two.
It matters because your profile is often the first thing a customer sees: the little box on Google Search and Google Maps with your hours, phone number, photos and reviews. If it says you close at 5 and you now close at 9, you lose customers who never tell you why.
Before you start: sign in as the owner
- Open Google and sign in with the Google account that manages your business listing.
- Search for your exact business name. You should see your profile with edit options (such as Edit profile) near the top. You can also use the Google Business Profile app.
- If you don't see any edit options, the listing may not be claimed by you yet, or Google may ask you to verify that you represent the business first. Follow the prompts on screen.
Button names change from time to time. If a label below doesn't match exactly, look for the closest one.
How to change your business hours
- On your profile, choose Edit profile, then find the hours section (usually inside business information).
- Set the opening and closing time for each day. Mark any day you are closed.
- If you close for lunch or have two shifts, add a second set of hours for that day.
- Save or submit your changes.
How to add holiday hours
Google lets you set special hours for particular dates, so a holiday doesn't leave customers standing at a locked door.
- In the same hours section, look for special hours or holiday hours.
- Pick the date, then enter that day's hours or mark it closed.
- Save. Do this a week or two before the holiday, not the night before.
How to add photos to your Google Business Profile
Real photos help people picture the visit. Customers also upload their own, so it is worth adding yours so that the best ones are seen first.
- On your profile, open the Photos section.
- Choose to add a photo and pick its type, for example your logo, a cover photo, the outside of your building, the inside, or your products.
- Upload, then check that it shows up under the right type.
- Outside photo: so people recognize the building when they arrive.
- Inside photo: so they know what to expect.
- Your work or products: the food, the finished job, the shelf.
- Your logo and a cover photo: upload these once and replace them only if they change.
Use your own photos taken in good light. Don't use pictures you don't own. Short videos can be added too, but Google limits their length and file size, so keep them brief.
How to edit your menu
If you run a restaurant or café, you can list your dishes and prices directly on your profile.
- On your profile, look for a Menu section (for example in the left-hand menu or in your editing options).
- Choose to add or edit items, and group them into sections such as starters, mains and desserts.
- Type each item's name, a short description and the price, then save.
Two things to know. First, if you already use an ordering or menu service connected to your listing, the menu may be managed there rather than in Google, so you would change it in that service. Second, edits may take a day or two to appear on Google Maps. Check back later before assuming something went wrong.
Other quick fixes worth five minutes
- Phone number and website: make sure both are correct and that the website link opens a page that loads.
- Business description: two or three plain sentences about what you do and where.
- Services or products: add what you offer so customers can find you for it.
- Reviews: reply to them, and ask happy customers for more. We cover how in our guide How to get more Google reviews for your small business.
A simple weekly routine
- Once a week, search your own business name and check that the hours, phone number and photos are right.
- Add one or two new real photos.
- Before every holiday or schedule change, update your hours first.
- Whenever a price or dish changes, change your menu the same day.
